Every Wednesday, between 7:00 and 9:00 PM, a gathering of people come together to meditate and support one another in their meditation practice. We meet at Madrona MindBody Institute at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA. The green arrow on this map points to the building we meet in.
We start promptly at 7:00 with a 45 minute silent sitting period. (A bell is sounded after 25 minutes for those who want to also do some walking meditation). We then break for 15 minutes for some optional tea and snacks. Those wishing to maintain silence during the break are welcome to remain in the meditation hall or to indicate by gesture their wish to remain silent if spoken to in the break room.
During the final hour, we will share a reading or listen to a recorded talk from a known teacher. Most of these readings tend to come from teachers of vipassana, or insight meditation (usually from the lineage of Theravadin Buddhism — although we have also included such teachers as Eckhart Tolle, Pema Chodron and Adyashanti). We end at 9:00.
The group is peer led. Each meditation sitting is led by different members of the group, as is each discussion period after tea. Everything is done on a volunteer basis. A donation is requested to compensate Madrona for the use of the room. There is also an opportunity to support the activities of the meditation group by offering a small donation.
