Rodney Smith on “Working with Dharma Fundamentals” in Port Townsend, May 12-13, 2012

Rodney Smith will be in Port Townsend to lead a two-day non-residential retreat on the weekend of May 12 and 13, 2012. The topic will be “working with dharma fundamentals.”  Rodney is the guiding teacher of the Seattle Insight Meditation Society and we are always happy to have him here to teach. The retreat will consist of sitting and walking meditation, dharma talks from the teacher, and small group meetings with the teacher. We will be in silence during the retreat.

Rodney’s topic for this retreat will be “Working with Dharma Fundamentals.” Rodney points out that “so often we bypass our relationship to the fundamentals of Dharma practice because they seem too basic compared to the depth of where the Dharma is pointing. In so doing we reach a dead end where we are unable to move forward because we are not sufficiently prepared to engage the next step of our journey.”

We plan to meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. The retreat will be held at the Port Townsend Yacht Club, 2503 Washington Street in Port Townsend.

While the space is large enough for us, we still need to know how many people to expect. So please use the form below to register for this retreat or to ask any questions. Be sure “Rodney Retreat” is in the subject line of anything you send me about the retreat. If you can only come for one day, please let us know.

As we get closer to the retreat time we will send driving directions to the yacht club and any other pertinent information; if you have not received a response to your registration by May 1, please contact us again. Please plan to bring your own cushions, although there will be some available there. Chairs are available for use.

As is typical practice in our tradition, there is no charge for the teachings, but we encourage everyone to practice generosity by giving dana to the teacher so that he may continue to teach the Dharma. We will also ask for a $10 contribution for the cost of the space.

Bring a lunch and/or snacks for yourself if you wish. The Food Co-op is within walking distance and there are several eating places nearby. Tea will be provided.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Teresa Scharf

The retreat is over and registration is closed. Talks from the retreat are available here.
